Trigger Separation on Envelopes?

Developer team,
I’m in a discussion with a few of my technical resources, and I could use your help. I want to use Grooper in a mail room processing situation where we would use the envelope as the separator sheet. The envelope could be standard size, 8.5” X 11”, or any variation of envelope sizes you’ve ever seen. The address label could be vertical, or horizontal, it won’t always be in the same location.
Do you think Grooper could identify the envelope and separate on it?

dannis Posts: 1 adminSeparating on document size alone will inevitably result in false positives. In a case where primarily business-size documents are being received, it would work most of the time. However, if payment stubs, checks, or other small documents are commonplace, separation would be pretty unreliable.
If this is to be used for production mail room capture, it needs more intelligence. For example, using capabilities we already have, we could create an activity which detects envelopes based on a variety of factors:
• Document size and shape. Does size and aspect ratio fall within the limits of an envelope? If not, stop checking.
• Barcode detection. If the page contains an Intelligent Mail or Postnet barcode, it is an envelope.
• Shape detection. If the page contains a USPS postmark, it is an envelope.
• Data Extraction. If the page contains 2 distinct address blocks, it is an envelope.
• Visual Classification. If the information on the page generally looks like this, it is an envelope:
We don’t have this today, but it can be developed as a custom activity during the implementation.5
